01 / DOCUMENTARY & HUMAN STORIES

Documentary was my first love as a filmmaker. It taught me to start with people, to listen for the story rather than force one onto the subject, and to treat the camera as more than a way to illustrate an interview. The images, the places, the pauses and the details can carry as much meaning as the words.

That instinct has stayed with me. Whatever the subject or assignment, I’m usually looking for the same thing: the story underneath it, and the moments that make people care.

IBM / Solutions for a Smarter Planet

Bolzano

Produced by StudioNow with Ogilvy Entertainment for IBM’s Solutions for a Smarter Planet documentary series. The story looks at how technology was being used to help older residents of the Italian Alpine city of Bolzano live more independently. The goal was a patient, observational approach focused on the humanity and emotion behind the story rather than the technology itself.

CafeMom Studios

It’s Cancer Baby — Episode 1: Joanna’s Story

Produced for CafeMom Studios, It’s Cancer Baby was a 10-episode documentary series following Joanna Montgomery through her experience with cancer. Her candor, humor and strength gave the series its heart.

The American Lawyer

The First Twenty-Five Years

Produced for The American Lawyer through The History Factory for the magazine’s 25th anniversary. The film traces its evolution from maverick upstart to influential institution, while wrestling with the tension between being embraced by the establishment it must continue to challenge.

02 / COMMERCIAL & SHORT FORM

Commercial work demands compression. The idea has to read quickly and every second has to earn its place. That discipline matters even more now in a world of short-form video and fast-moving feeds. These three spots for Verizon use exaggerated visual metaphors to make speed and immediate results instantly clear.

03 / MOTION & ANIMATION

Motion and animation open up a very different set of storytelling tools. From using typography and photography to turn factual information into a compelling story, to building entire worlds and populating them with characters, the range is enormous.

Keebler

Meet Leonardo

Created for Keebler as part of a more contemporary take on their famous Elves, Meet Leonardo introduces a new personality and expands a familiar brand world.

Nashville Tree Foundation

04 / BRANDED STORYTELLING & EDITORIAL

The space between advertising and editorial has expanded dramatically. The brand still matters, but the work has to earn attention on its own. Sometimes that means entertainment, sometimes utility, sometimes a strong human story.

Verizon

Share America

Produced around a real Verizon bus tour across the country, Share America followed the journey through iconic cities and communities, capturing music, movement and moments of celebration along the way. The brand was the connective thread; the story came from the people and places we encountered.
